Most European languages follow the Latin iānuārius, i.e. John's month, when designating the first month of the year. Janus was the Roman god of doors, beginnings or endings and was often used as a symbol of change.
Between Czech January and Finnish tammikuu are quite exceptional and we will not find them in any other language. You are not at all mistaken if you hear the word ice in the Czech name of the month. What led to this naming of the ancestors is therefore clear. As for the Finnish form of this month, the origin and meaning of the word are more abstract.

The English and Slovak word december is distinguished only by pronunciation. The basis of the name for the twelfth month of the year lies in the Latin numeral decet, that is, ten. Not that our ancient ancestors could not count. But they followed the Roman calendar, in which December, or december, if you like, was the tenth month of the calendar year. The interpretation of the Czech word December varies. According to some sources, it derives from millet porridge, which was the most common food in winter. Others see a resemblance to the sinal or siny of the Proto-Slavic prosinati, or to shine through, referring to the dull, shining winter sun. Experts from the Institute for the Czech Language completely exclude the possibility that December would arise from the verb to ask in the sense of caroling. And yet it would be so logical. It was not uncommon, for example, for a child to be pledged in the event of a debt default in order to be sold on the slave market.
The origin of the name of the month of February usually refers to the verb to plunge or its older form unnutovat. Today we know more related words to immerse or immerse. Since the time of the national revival, the meaning of the word February has been interpreted as a month in which there is thaw, ice breaks and plunges into water. Another explanation is that during the February thaw, snow and ice melt and the earth begins to sink into water and mud. In any case, both interpretations speak of melting and thawing.

There's so much more interesting. New Year's Eve is the feast of St. New Year's Eve. It is said that Silvestr was pope, but in his time – that is, in the years at the turn of the third and fourth centuries, when the feast was created – the head of the Christian Church wore only the title of Bishop of Rome. In his youth, he is said to have experienced the persecution of Christians and had to hide in the woods near Rome. Hence its name, because New Year's Eve comes from the Latin word silva, which refers to both the inhabitants of the forest and the forest. He was lucky, survived and lived to see the time when Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and began to support this religion.

Saint Valentine lived in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. He was elected bishop in 203 and then served in Rome. According to legend, he is responsible for several miracles. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers because he married couples in love behind the emperor's back. Such couples were prevented from marrying for various reasons. However, when information about Valentine's secret practices became public, he was arrested and sentenced to death. The execution of the saint took place on February 14. At the time Valentine lived, Christianity was still a marginal religion. Valentine supposedly had healing abilities that were considered miraculous. Rather, he probably knew how to heal the sick or help them with natural substances. The healed patients then converted to his faith. The pagan Romans certainly did not like this, and so rather than secret marriages, the death penalty was carried out for spreading Christianity.

A sweater is a kind of clothing. The sweater is most often knitted and is used in the colder season to cover the upper body, i.e. the torso and hands. A sweater that also covers the neck is called a turtleneck. Sweaters can be monochrome or multi-colored, with or without patterns. They are used to insulate the body, not to protect it from wind and rain. The sweater can be either a pullover (dressed over the head) or an unfastened cardigan :)
