Printed paper (field), cards, figures
3rd level (a game with rules)
intellectual combination, competition between individual (or teams)
Yes, we adapted the game for blind pupils, although the adaptations might also be very stimulating for non-disabled and especially younger children. So the game could also be played with blindfolds to learn about children with disabilities or boost concentration for pupils with concentration difficulties. Taking away the visual aspect of learning could help these kids focus more on the task itself. We tried to keep the adaptations as minimal and straightforward as possible. The numbers on the board were written in braille with glitter glue. The fields with the instruction “pick a card” were then highlighted with sandpaper, and the “snakes” were made out of a kitchen sponge (see photos). For the cards, we also used braille, and we enhanced the pictograms with additional 3D effects (kitchen sponge and glitter glue). We also added the name of the theme of the cards (e.g. history or maths) in braille.
We created this game because we had many unforgettable memories about this game from our childhood, and also, we found it relatively easy to adapt to every subject. Its simplicity also opens a lot of opportunities to adjust the game for disabled children. We had the intention to combine gaming with a school subject to make it a learning game that can be used for various school subjects. The goal was, e.g. to spice up an exercise phase for vocabulary learning or as a revision tool for a history test. It is an interactive and multi-sensory game for almost everyone with possible adaptations for different levels; it provides a motivation boost for learners of different ages and subjects.
There will be pupils in small groups (could also be individual playing simultaneously in different parts of the school). One group starts throwing the cube and start from the field START - according to that number that she/he gets, she/he will make that many steps. If it stops in the field with the aqua tube, he/she has to take a card and solve the problem written on the card. If the solution is correct, she/he will go up; if it's not, the player stays under the aqua tube, next time throwing the cube again and come in front (not up on the tube).
6 yo - 100 yo
It could be modificate for a large group of students - at the same time, we can play multiple games all around the school/class with different topics. After finishing the game, the pupils can switch places (and opponents). One round can be played at the same time from 2 players to 5.
Winning - playing against each other
