How my musical taste evolved

Of course their lyrics. It's a Christian band and I am a Christian. The songs were incredible encouragement to me.

I just like the way they sound a lot :)

Rivers&Robots were very important to me for many reasons.

I saw them live and also heard their speech which helped me to decide that I wanted to make music.

I loved their philosophy of combining the natural and digital tools. It helped me to realize what I want not only in music but also in my work and life in general

Music that I encountered after the previous part in different times of my life and was important to me

This song is special for me not only from the musical point of view but also because of the meaning.

From Irish music I naturally got to Sinéad. When I was trying to realize what song was the most meaningful to me in the sense of how it sounded and I enjoyed it and was inspired by it, I think it was this one.

I think I must have heard the Teardrop from Massive Attack first somewhere. As I started listening to them, I was totally fascinated. Nobody around me understood this music and I listened to it a little secretly. I used to make paintings based on it. I think they introduced me to thinking about sound and electronic music and wanting to create something like it too.

Somewhere here I stumbled to this by chance and I remember it inspired me to try some acapella layered singing too. I think this was probably the strongest trigger of what I started trying to do it in Audacity.

Well, it's funny that I managed to be part of their video :) (3:36)

They also made me love the sound of a flute. My dad is really into historic music and instruments. He had a Renaissance tenor flute made for me. Maybe I can start using it more

I heard Emiliana at the end of LOTR 2 and absolutely loved it. I looked her up and when I heard this song, I was thrilled that I finally found something that really resonates with me.

individual songs that I've heard and I feel they're important too

It was hard to choose one specific song that I loved. 100th window was an amazing album. But Risingson was special. It was so weird, so different, my friends despised it, but I admired what MA were doing with the sounds, vocals, everything... including the video.

Kye Kye had a similar effect on me as Massive Attack. Really loved what they did and made me to feel the urge to create something too.

I played this on loop. Really liked the used sounds and effects

This song is special because it was the first one I heard on the radio. I even remember where it was. I was a kid and there were no things like Shazam or anything. It took quite a while until I found out what it was.

This life performance (there's a playlist) was making me observing what all the musicians were doing and I wished I could be one of them...

The Kiffness was probably the biggest trigger of my desire to make electronic music. As I saw him, I could imagine what I could do having the gear he had! So I started to do some research and found out it was very expensive and complicated. But later i discovered Koala and iOS music and my dream came true :)

Here it all started when I was a teenager

Coco Rosie were always... like... I really liked them and felt inspired by them but I didn't like them at the same time. I think that it's exactly who they are in fact . So they do a great job.

I heard this in an advertisement. It was already era of the internet 😄 So I managed to look it up and got hooked. This music style really resonated with me and I liked how minimalistic it was - only a duo, one for vocals, other for electronics. I thought that it would be nice to be able to do both

I always chose one "signature" song that is the most significat for me in relation to the artist

Eden's Bridge made many beautiful different songs. They were based on celtic style of music but used some electronics and interesting percussions. The vocals were, of course, also something I liked.

This was particularly interesting because I saw the video on how they were making all the sounds to the game. It was every inspiring for what I do now.

Well, after reviewing it, I realized how much I actually needed to do it. How many times in my life have I had moments where my body went absolutely crazy and my brain wouldn't let me sleep. No one can blame me for being so obsessed with what I can do now. It took many years...

ORKUS · Cube at the Castle Contest 2022

I was addicted to Enya. It also lead me to Irish/celtic music in general

I discovered this song and was absolutely stunned... If I had to say which artist is closest to what I want to be able to do, which one makes my body to feel the music so intensely, it would be him.

I loved a song from Moby in an advertisement. When I found out who it was, I started listening to him a lot. But I was quite young and didn't even think of making music like this yet.

Here I was about 20 yo

I enjoy music from many people from the Koala community. Everyone has their own style and are totally admirable. But this one just stands out for me and it's something I'd like to be able of doing...

I was trying to listen to Emilie, I kind of liked it but not everything. Nevertheless, this song was an obsession. It was important to me because of the use of electronics.

When I stumbled upon Björk, I liked but also didn't like her music. Maybe she helped me to realize what elements I'd like to have in my ideal music and which I wouldn't. This song and especially the life performance was something I needed to play on a loop...

Well ok, I heard this on TV as a kid, I think that maybe even before Enya. It felt like magic. I found out what it was later as a teenager and listened to it quite a lot. Choir singing was familiar to me but not the drums and rythm added to it. That's what caught my attention.

Lots of reverb, interesting use of vocals, electronics and acoustic instruments again.

I was introduced to Ola Gjeilo thanks to my sister who was singing in a choir. I really loved the way of combining vocals with instruments and the modern concept of choir singing.
